Godlind started playing soprano recorder, like many German children do, by playing Christmas songs with her family. When she couldn't have piano lessons, she was given an alto recorder and dabbled with that all through high school. In her college dorm in Berlin she heard someone play a Telemann solo piece on an alto, was amazed at what one can do with that instrument and immediately started to take recorder lessons from that person. Upon moving to Nashville, TN in 1969 Godlind found a few people to play with, but serious playing in a group took off when she discovered that the Nashville Parks Department offered recorder playing during the day (her baby daughter came along in a basket for the first few months); in time this group became a chapter of the ARS and continues to make music and perform to date. In those years Godlind also became one of the first proud owners of a Bass recorder, but has yet to try her hands at something bigger! Immediately upon moving to Long Island in 1988, she used the ARS Directory to find chapter members and started attending monthly RLSI meetings. She is a founding member of RONY and can’t believe Wednesday evenings have been rehearsal evenings since 1994!
